Q & A
We know that sometimes even the best of hunters can use some help. If you don't see it here, please email us your question.
QUESTION: I just started hunting last year and everyone tells me to use nothing but fresh urine, why is this so important as I am just starting to bow hunt and use scents?
ANSWER: Great question! As you will find out as most experienced hunters that use scents know that it is much more effective to use the freshest scents you can find, which just happens to be Doc's Deer Scents. Deer have a tremendous sense of smell there for whether you can tell the difference in urines (which should be rather easy by color and smell) or not deer will be able to pick up and be much more interested in a fresh scent because that signals them that there was a deer just in the area versus an old smelling scent which could cause suspicion and confusion.
QUESTION: With all of the scents that are now available everybody I see has their doe in heats/estrous out in June or July is this possible as they have marked on their packaging? As far as I know deer don't come into heat some where around end of Oct. to early Nov.
ANSWER: No, this is not possible, that is just referred to as marketing these days! The earliest that we have had our does come in through special lighting and the introduction of natural hormones was Mid Oct. and that is exactly why that is the earliest which you can purchase our "Extreme Heat®" (Doe in heat). If you don't own your own deer herd you can't control when you can get your products, which is why we can because we have our own deer herd.
QUESTION: For early season what scents do you recommend?
ANSWER: First and foremost you want to get scent eliminated the next scents that we highly recommend is our Double Doe® Urine-Buck Urines-Food/Curiosity Attractants. The main thing to keep in mind at this time of year is that deer are still on a eating spree for the most part trying to build fat reserves for the upcoming rut. Use that to your advantage whenever possible.
QUESTION: I know fresh scents work the best, but how do I optimize the use of them?
ANSWER: We highly recommend using mock scrapes whenever possible.
1. They're free!
2. The fresh dirt smell mixed with fresh urine significantly enhances the attraction to the area.
QUESTION: Which do you recommend using urines or gels?
ANSWER: Doc's carries both but typically we recommend food gels used in conjunction with straight doe urine early but as the temperatures fall later in the season below freezing we recommend using our gels as they don't freeze near as quick as liquid urines do.
QUESTION: While I was checking out your website I come across these pre-scented pads how and what are they used for?
ANSWER: Our Extreme Heat® pre-scented pads are an original to the industry; they are pre-scented in a dry form so they need no additional scents poured on them as they are in a highly concentrated dry application. These pads work great throughout the rut and won't freeze up like liquid urines when temperatures fall below freezing. They can be placed on tree limbs or low lying branches over mock scrapes. And they also come in their own resealable/reuseable airtight bag for easy storage.
