Tips and Usage

Team Extreme Scent Facts

Deer, as well as most animals, rely on their senses to survive. Deer have large ears to gather sounds, wide spread eyes to detect movement and depth, and an intricate olfactory sense to communicate with other deer and detect danger. Tricking a deers senses is the key to getting close to a trophy. A whitetail's nose is its hardest sense to beat.

Deer communicate through an intricate glandular system. These scent glands are located on different parts of a deer's anatomy and use pheromones to identify individual animals. Both hormonal and sympathetic stimulation messages are sent between animals. Pheromones released in a deers hoofprint can warn other deer of danger. Likewise, pheromones left with a bucks urine on a scrape during urine marking, or on a rub on a tree, can notify other deer that a buck has established this area as his territory.

Does have an increase in estrogen levels just before they are ready to breed. This endocrinal message is released in the does urine. Bucks respond to this message by letting their guard down and looking for, or chasing this doe. It is at this time, a buck is most susceptible to hunters.

Usage Tips

First and foremost: Get scent eliminated with Doc's Mirage™ products and our 4-Step procedure. After you've achieved this then you can begin to form your strategies on proper scent usage along with proper scent selections. Common sense must be applied here!!

In Early bow season, instead of running out and grabbing the first bottle of Doe Estrus to be found (packed full of preservatives and additives), think what your natural deer herd is going through as far as food, travel patterns and deer movements. All you would accomplish is, "spooking your deer herd", because you've used an unnatural scent at an unappropriate time. Be patient...

Best scent for early season, is your dominant buck or doe urine's, food attractant gels/sprays and curiosity scents such as Sweet Demise #7 and Persimmon Spray.

Proper use: place along deer corridors and bottlenecks off trails 10-20 yds. The importance of this, is to not block deer trails. Don't be afraid to make a "mock scrape" regardless of the time of season, as this only enhances deers natural curiosities!! This is a highly recommended set up. Regardless if scent is food, curiosity or urine, use same strategy for all by placing scent in and around "mock scrape."

Make sure you freshen up your scent pads/boots as you travel to your tree stand/ground blind. The idea behind this is to keep a buck trailing towards your ambush site.

Be non-aggressive in the early part of bow season, as deer are not tuned into the rut yet! Once again stick to food, curiosity, Buck/Doe Urine's.

As 3rd week of October and later arrives, now is the time to become more aggressive with your use of Doc's Scents!

Dominant Buck/Extreme Heat® work wonders this time of year as early November arrives!

Dominant Buck works great on scrape lines - mock scrapes and scent trails - along with controlled rattling sequences! You must capture 2 of 3 senses for most deer to commit to come in...Eyes, Ears or Nose. If a buck can't see who was rattling he will want to smell the presence of a buck or bucks to confirm what he heard. Again freshen up your scent trail to lure a buck towards you!

Extreme Heat® - once again Doc's 100% pure, fresh, natural scents are the purest freshest on market today! No exceptions! The importance of fresh cannot be overstated! Use of Doc's Double Doe® scent is to imitate 2 does walking through the woods, wandering along trails in a natural fashion - as all deer do everyday of their lives! Be careful while using Doc's Extreme Heat® as this could make other does edgy at times. This scent will attract bucks rather than does. The percentages are very high that does will accept it as a natural scent, but as we all know, does don't always care to be around other does when they are in heat.

That's why a lot of times, a buck will herd a hot doe, off by herself! This product should be used in accordance with what your wild herd is doing naturally. During rut, bucks are on the move desperately seeking receptive does! What better way to lure them in than to use the freshest and purest scent possible - Doc's Double Doe® Extreme Heat®! (For best results use from the 3rd week in October to 3rd week of December. For Southern Climates - Use from Mid-November to Mid January.)
